Train tracks - music on the Trans Siberian Railway

Anything that has a rhythm and ideally is a bit bleak. Kraftwerk are obviously a winner here, David Bowie’s ‘Low’ was also good. However, after a while you have to stop listening to it or else you want to drown yourself in vodka.

Also been listening to some great compilations from Mark Barker and Fryer

In Siberia, Rick Rubin’s Johnny Cash sessions were a favourite along with My Morning Jacket. Their sound is so massive that it is perfect for the wide expanses of Siberia.

I have to admit that I am looking forward to listening to something a bit cheery - Leonard Cohen?

Through Mongolia I have been listening to Nick Drake and The Smiths and a bit of Erland Oye.

Arrived in China and suddenly the funk has hit me - Sly & the Family Stone and Curtis Mayfield have been on the MP3 pretty much solidly for the first 24 hours. Of course that level couldn’t be kept up so I changed track and got the alt country out - Ryan Adams, The Pernice Brothers and some Gram Parsons. I’ve been surprised that the country hasn’t featured as strongly in my listening as I thought. Also, I’ve been really enjoying The Shins first two albums.

Australia - time to break out the AC/DC and get the Led out. On the road trip to Melbourne Led Zepellin IV has been playing constantly. Also broken up by a bit of Trojan rocksteady box set.
